AstraZeneca Canada Update on COVID-19

We continue to see the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, and unprecedented measures to contain and prevent the spread of the virus. On behalf of everyone at AstraZeneca Canada, our hearts go out to all those impacted by COVID-19 – this includes not only those diagnosed with the virus, but also their family and friends, those whose jobs and schools have been impacted and so many more.

During this extraordinary time, our focus is, as always, on the health and safety of our patients, customers, employees and communities.  To do our part in slowing the spread of the virus, we have introduced a number of measures in an effort to reduce the community’s risk of exposure. In addition to cancelling all business-related travel, all AstraZeneca Canada employees (head office and field) have begun working from home. This means all face-to-face interactions and events are being postponed or cancelled and we are leveraging digital technology; shifting to virtual exchanges and education where possible.

We continue to monitor the worldwide impact very closely, and have taken measures to ensure the continued safety, quality and supply of our medicines for Canadian patients.  This includes having contingency plans in place to facilitate continuity of care and support for patients involved in our clinical trials, patient support programs and special access programs.  

Globally, AstraZeneca is engaging with international health authorities and governments in response to the pandemic. We have provided our science and technology expertise to authorities including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA).

Through our scientific expertise in infectious disease and proprietary antibody discovery technology, we have rapidly mobilized our research efforts to discovering novel coronavirus-neutralizing antibodies as a treatment to prevent COVID-19 disease. Our teams are now focused on identifying monoclonal antibodies to progress into clinical trial evaluation.
