In 2010, AstraZeneca launched the Young Health Program (YHP) in many countries around the world. As a global, long-term community investment initiative, YHP aims to improve the health of vulnerable young people around the world — now and into the future.
In Canada, we aim to improve the mental and emotional well-being of disconnected and vulnerable youth ages 10 to 19. Only one in five young people who need mental health services currently receive them; and 70% of mental health problems have their onset during adolescence. But we also know 70% of mental health cases that appear in youth can be solved through early intervention.
We cannot do this alone. So we have partnered with three leading Canadian organizations – mindyourmind, Physical and Health Education Canada and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada – and are actively working with them to address this issue. Together, we hope to reach 50,000 youth through this program by 2014.
